Notes:The Cabbage Tree is a monocotyledon tree-like plant of the lily family, native of New Zealand. It was a very important food source for the Maori populations, who used to eat the carrot-shaped root of the plant as their main food, called Kauru. Also the young central leaves of the bushy branch heads can be used as substitute for cabbage(hence the common name). The Cabbage Tree stands well occasional cold conditions, and for this reason is today planted as decorative plant in gardens of cooler world areas, such as England coasts. The Maori names of this plant are T? r?kau or T? k?uka.
