Tulips natively appear on mountainous regions with temperate climates, and need a period of cool dormancy. They do best in climate with cool long springs and early summers. Bulbs are planted in late Summer or early Autumn. Holland is today’s main producer of commercially sold plants, but the cultivation of the Tulips started a long time ago in the Middle East. Tulips arrived late in the USA, presumably around the half of XIX Century. Over the years gardeners have created many cultivar variations on the Tulips, inventing new and exciting color patterns.
