The Southern Magnolia (Mississippi State tree) grows very slowly, on deep, fertile neutral or acidic soils. It is frost-intolerant. It starts blooming only at 20years of age. The long-lasting, big Summer blossoms made it one of the most appreciated decorative trees all over the world (where climate allows).
