Native to humid regions, it tolerates prolonged draught,so you can even find it near deserts! Since the pods (of great food value) areharvested in the dry season, Tamarind is often planted by tropical farmers tominimise the risk of crop failure. It can grow up to 25 mt tall and 12 mt wide,with a lifespan of 200 years. It can produce up to half a ton of pods per year!
