Animating growth of Xfrog Plants in C4D...

Postby fcollins » Sun May 27, 2012 3:11 pm

Hi,
I just got found xFrog for C4d and I'm trying to use the corn plant that I purchased from the site. I should have checked earlier, but are the plants able to be animated (for growth) in C4d as delivered? I thought they would be separated into a hierarchy and not merged into one editable layer. I am going through the online video tutorials (the rose animation) now and I'm hoping to be able to start building my corn plant soon.

Thanks
Frank

you have to load the *.xfr file, check the import settings to get the file as hierarchy (you can import xfr files as static mesh or procedural hierarchy)
Might be that you have to tidy up a bit, but it should give you a base to work on.

Thanks for replying. Can you take a look at these settings and tell me what I should be using for importing? I'm still getting a single object with all of the options I've gone through.

Thanks,
Frank

I'm using C4D R12 and Xfrog 5, the settings I use to bring an .xfr file in with hierarchy intact is:

Edit > Prefs > Import/Export > Xfrog 3.x Import > General: Mode = Xfrog 4 Objects and Scale = 100. Materials = all selected except "Override Multiply Textures", under Objects, Hierarchy Simplication = Always, Tube Area/Smoothing = by Smoothing Attribute, Tropism Import = by separate Tropism, all else unchecked.

You may also want to watch the tutorial video "Import Xfrog 3.5 to Xfrog 5" on the support tab at Xfrog. It is under Xfrog for C4d > Workshops.

yes, usually the only point that really matters: Xfrog4/5 Object must be selected, not Single Mesh. All the other options are to finetune the hierarchy import or how materials are imported. But when the main option is set to Xfrog Object instead of Single Mesh, then loading an *.xfr file should result in an editable Xfrog hierarchy.

Thanks to both of you for the help. It is working. Somehow, I watched most of the videos on that page but skipped over the one I was looking for!
I'm getting to work on it now...
Thanks!

(excluding Landscaping & Asia) import when Xfrog5-C4D opens their .xfr hierarchies? MAXON added a fast new SSs shader in R13, and I'm wondering how difficult it would be to change the leaf materials to in
